Note:
This type of motor was the latest replacement originally supplied by Bang & Olufsen for the above mentioned models.
Note for Beocord 2000 3300 5000, Beocenter 2200:
If present, the original short black grounding wire found on the chassis near the motor must be removed.
Note:
When replacing motor type 8400101 in Beocord 6000 6002 8000 8002 8004 or Beocenter 5000 7000 7002 7007 7700 the
original external transistor (if present) and the short grounding connection (a wire bridge or a short black lead) must be removed before powering up.
It may not be immediately apparent, but in these Beocord and Beocenter models, the motor runs off a negative (-15V) supply.
In other words, it has its negative lead going to the supply and its positive lead to ground.
The original motor has its metal housing insulated – not connected to any of the supply leads.
The housing is externally connected to chassis ground via a short black lead (or a wire bridge) from one of its mounting screws to the drives metal chassis.
The new motor has its metal housing connected to its negative lead.
Running off a negative supply would short the supply, if the housing is not insulated from the drives chassis.
This is why the black grounding lead (or wire bridge) must be removed before powering up.
See gallery photo.
It is also important that the motors rubber suspension mounts are intact, or a short may appear here.
New mounts can be found here.
